| Beyond Belief |

Beyond Belief was an exhibition in St Mary's Church, Guildford in March 2004 of which I was part. The installation Annunciation 2004 and the two prints were made for this exhibition. They are an attempt to look beyond the story of the Annunciation to the symbolism of it.
The chair on which the Virgin Mary sat to receive the news of Jesus's birth from the Angel Gabriel remains long after Mary has left - whilst we still recognise the lily as a symbol of 'purity'. Taking the idea one step further - the magnified image of the lily pollen grain reminds us of the tiny grains of ideas on which stories, like the Annunciation, were based. |
