THE WORKSHOPS

Welcome back!

This year we shall be looking at the work of three 20th century women artists: Winifred Nicholson, Joan Eardley and Mary Newcomb who will form the basis of our workshops.  We shall compare how they use mark making and colour to convey atmosphere in their work.   You can work in whatever medium you choose.

Thursday 19th August – Making a Mark and using a sketch book.  Looking at different ways of mark making to gather information Fee £60

Friday 20th August – Interpreting Colour Whether you want to draw (with pastels or crayons) or just paint – this is suitable for every medium.   Fee £60

Monday 23rd August - Creating an Atmosphere – looking at light and tone. Draw or paint. Fee £60

Tuesday 24th August – A Moment in Time – Looking at ways of capturing a fleeting moment by drawing/painting several versions of your chosen subject. Draw or paint.  Fee £60

COVID 19 – If numbers are still restricted, I shall work on a first booked first served basis.  Please bring a mask and sanitizer if this is also necessary.  It will be possible to accommodate a small number in the studio with current social distancing rules.  A full refund will be given if and when the Covid rules change and we are unable to go ahead – otherwise the policy below will still apply.

CANCELLATION POLICY

Full refunds will be given up to 14 days before the start of the course.  Otherwise, in order to ensure the viability of the course it will not be possible to do so as late cancellations make it difficult to find a replacement.

THE BARN AND GARDEN

As regular participants on Susanna’s courses know that her 11 acre garden near Guildford has many features from which to take inspiration including a walled garden, a stream, an orchard, and a small wood.   The barn is a wonderful airy space with chairs tables and some easels provided. The workshops are suitable for all abilities - you just work at your own pace.  All courses will be held in the barn and the garden. The workshops start with a cup of coffee and a short talk and discussion about what we are going to do.

ABOUT THE TUTOR

Susanna has a BA (Hons) in Fine Art and an MA in Printmaking.  She has exhibited widely both nationally and internationally. She has a lot of experience in running workshops from her barn in Wonersh as well as in schools and galleries including Guildford House and more recently at Pallant House in Chichester.  She believes nothing is created in isolation so she often refers to art historical contexts during the courses.  Above all she is keen that all participants have an opportunity to experiment and have fun!

WHAT TO BRING

A list of suggested materials to bring will be sent to you when you sign up for the course.  In order to avoid confusion bookings can only be guaranteed on payment of the course fee.  Tea and coffee will be provided.  Please bring a packed lunch. Ample parking available.
